TLC Blog Tour Review: The Long Way Home by Mariah Stewart

Ballantine Books

Release Date: January 29,2013

Purchase: Amazon Barnes And Noble

4 of 5 Stars

As the only child of a wealthy investment manager, Ellie Chapman has never known anything besides a life of perfect privilege. But her years of good fortune come to an abrupt end when her father is exposed for swindling billions of dollars from innocent investors in a massive Ponzi scheme. And just like that, Ellie loses everything: money, job, home—even her fiancé, who’s jailed as her father’s partner in crime. With no job prospects on the horizon, no cash, and her family name in tatters, Ellie has only one place to go.
.
Sleepy St. Dennis, Maryland, is hardly where Ellie intends to stay, however. Keeping her identity a secret, she plans to sell the house her late mother left her in the small town and use the proceeds to move on with her life. Unfortunately, her ticket to a new beginning is in dire need of a laundry list of pricey improvements, many of which she’ll have to do herself. And until the house on Bay View Road is fit to be sold, the sole place Ellie will be traveling is the hardware store. But as the many charms of St. Dennis–not to mention Cameron O’Connor, the handsome local contractor who has secrets of his own–begin to work their magic, what begins as a lesson in do-it-yourself renovations might just end up as Ellie’s very own rejuvenation..

My Thoughts:
As a long time fan of Mariah Stewart, I was super excited to get to read the latest, greatest Chesapeake Diaries story. Sadly, upon reading it, I thought I would be disappointed. Why? Because I couldn’t progress pass the first half of the book. It seemed to drag on and on in this book. Like there was too much going on. But, in true Mariah Stewart fashion, she prevails with another awesomely written story that brought me to the center of St. Dennis and all the characters that have become family to me, making this one awesome read!

Ellie’s back in St. Dennis to fix up and sell the house her mother left her. I really felt a connection to her. Her father and her fiance are both in prison and she’s got nothing left because of it. She just wants to start over and get her life back on track. I loved following Ellie as she worked on that and the things she discovered in St. Dennis.

Cameron O’Connor…..oh la la! Loved his character! Can I have one of him delivered to me for Valentine’s Day, Ms. Stewart? His character is wonderfully chiseled and made me smile! I loved his character and the role he played in helping Ellie get back on track.

If you love a wonderfully written romance, and a sleepy little town in Maryland…..grab up the newest addition to the Diaries. Ms. Stewart will hook you and take you for a 4 star whirlwind ride of romance, second chances and characters that become your closest friends. While this book is part of the series, and I always recommend that a book be read in order, you could read this easily as a stand-a-lone.

TLC Blog Tour Review: The One I Left Behind by Jennifer McMahon

William And Morrow

Release Date: January 2,2013

Purchase: Amazon Barnes And Noble

The summer of 1985 changes Reggie’s life. An awkward thirteen-year-old, she finds herself mixed up with the school outcasts. That same summer, a serial killer called Neptune begins kidnapping women. He leaves their severed hands on the police department steps and, five days later, displays their bodies around town. Just when Reggie needs her mother, Vera, the most, Vera’s hand is found on the steps. But after five days, there’s no body and Neptune disappears.

Now, twenty-five years later, Reggie is a successful architect who has left her hometown and the horrific memories of that summer behind. But when she gets a call revealing that her mother has been found alive, Reggie must confront the ghosts of her past and find Neptune before he kills again.

My Thoughts:
So it took me forever to get this book. But, when I did, I devoured it. I had to turn each page and see what was happening next, how the story would end up, where it would take me. I must confess, I was slightly disappointed. Why, you ask? Because. I didn’t want it to end and it did. It’s a riveting suspense story filled with characters that steal you away into the center of the twists, turns, ins and outs of the past…..blending with the present day. Simply awesome.

Reggie’s character, both present day as a wonderful architect, and as an awkward teenager, is awesome. I loved following her as she dealt with tragedy, dealt with the horrific crime of the Neptune killer taking her mother. I loved seeing her reactions as she found out the truth behind the killings, and dealing with her mother back in her life.

Following Reggie was definitely a roller coaster ride. Ups, downs, twists, turns….all of it leaving my heart pounding and my body on the edge of my seat through out the book. This book hooked me so fast and so hard that I had it done in one sitting. The writing style of Ms. McMahon is stunning and the characters gripping. The plotline will not soon be forgotten and this is definitely a book that I will be turning back to again and again.

If you love suspense, riveting intensity, and amazingly written storylines, then this is a 5 star book you shouldn’t miss. Grab it up, sit back, and be thrown for a loop as you hunt for the Neptune Killer and follow Reggie’s life long journey of moving on. Well done, Ms. McMahon!

Andie Oliver is a faithful woman–to God, to her handsome husband Joe, and to televangelist Reverend Calvin Artury, a Godfather in a Mafia of holy men. Raised in the 1970′s to be subservient and submissive in the tradition of the Bible-belt South, she becomes a prisoner of that tradition. As a reluctant member of Artury’s evangelical megachurch, the House of Praise in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Andie’s dream of children, home, and marriage falls apart after Joe is hired by the ministry team.

Vivid and tragic, Televenge exposes chaos in the megachurch, and embraces those who discover their destiny in unconditional love in a world fraught with fear and intimidation. Fighting for redemption for her family and herself, Andie confronts the very definition of evil personified. Evading ruthless adversaries who will go to any lengths to protect Reverend Artury, Andie battles the darkest side of televangelism. With more twists and turns than the Blue Ridge Parkway, Televenge takes you from the Piedmont South to the Hawaiian Islands, to Nigeria, and back to the high country of North Carolina.

In pitch-perfect voices, Pamela King Cable’s emotionally rich debut novel creates four extraordinary characters. Suspenseful and deeply moving, Televenge will be one of the most talked about books of the year.

AUTHOR’S MISSPENT BOYHOOD INSPIRES COMIC NOVEL ABOUT GROWING UP IN WEBSTER GROVES

From first crushes and cafeteria lines, hidden forts and secret passwords, learning the Cub Scout oath and robbing the Ben Franklin, to hanging out on the train tracks, running from the police, enduring stuffy classrooms and, of course, dodging projectile vomit, Never Hug a Nun laces the reader into the Keds of young Patrick Cantwell—a boy who really wants to be good, but who, like his hero The Wolfman, always seems to fall short.
Set in Webster Groves in 1966, the story takes readers on a laughing, head-shaking, I-remember-doing-that-stuff ride through the rigors of practicing good penmanship, the rites of spring kickball, unsupervised summer days filled with Velvet Freeze daydreams of starting a band at least as good as The Beatles, and, finally, to those dying seconds when a boy reaches out bravely to hold the 220-volt live wire of a girl’s hand.

It’s not easy being a Vampire Angel.

No one knows that better than Trond Sigurdsson. In the centuries since he last went out drinking and wenching with his Viking buds, Trond has been a gladiator, a cowboy, a ditch digger . . . even a sheik. But now he’s the baddest of them all: a kick-ass Navy SEAL kicking butts of terrorist immortals with the help of his hotter-than-Hades female partner, police officer-turned-Special Forces operative Nicole Tasso—whom Trond dearly hopes to “partner” with very shortly in a whole different way.

The “cop” part of Nicole tells her there’s something bizarre about her gorgeous godlike teammate. But her “all-woman” side can’t help wondering how great it would be to have a virile Viking in her bed. Trond has secrets galore, but Nicole feels certain she can dig them out—and really get to the heart of this powerful, unnerving stranger whom she may be risking her soul to love.
