She has the perfect life—and a secret worth killing for.

Nina Kasai is a gorgeous, Ivy League educated executive who would do anything to keep her past a secret, even from her husband. Seventeen years ago, she ran for her life and the truth has been locked away in the pages of her hidden diary, and in the mind of a disturbed woman who will never tell—ever.

When Nina lands the cover of a prestigious business magazine however, she can no longer hide from the powerful enemy she escaped. Phillip Copeland wants to be the next Governor of Massachusetts and he’s not above using his power and influence to silence Nina. He warns her to keep quiet about what happened all those years ago—or else.

As the stakes are raised, both politically and personally, Nina realizes the only way to win this game is to tell the truth. But who will believe her since her diary has been destroyed, and the only other witness isn’t talking?

Nina’s one chance at reclaiming her life hinges on a dramatic courtroom battle where nothing is as it seems. And when the verdict is read, four lives will be forever altered.

Guest Post:
What is life like when researching and creating a book of this type?
by Gledé Browne Kabongo

Life can be intense when researching and creating a psychological thriller like Conspiracy of Silence. I usually have an idea of what key plot points may need research but as the writing progresses, I may have ideas for mini plot points or slight tweaks to a character which may require a little bit of research. I often find myself at a crossroads, do I continue writing and fill in the research gaps later or do I conduct the research and draw from it as I write? Once I get in the writing zone it’s tough to stop. Ideas come to me at three in the morning or on the train ride home from work. I work full-time so I have to plan ahead for research. The internet is always a great place to start. I also lean heavily on books, and I always do my best to find experts on the particular topic in question.

As far as the creative process is concerned, I tend to write in bursts of inspiration although I’m trying to change that habit as I continue work on my new novel. I become obsessed with the manuscript for a period of time and it occupies my thoughts night and day. I can write for hours on end and I may not write again for weeks. I’m trying to be more even keeled with my creative process.

EXCERPT:
The telephone rang at three a.m. A drowsy Nina answered it.
“I have bad news.”
She didn’t need a psychic to tell her that. It was three in the morning.
“What is it?” she asked Dan McCloud.

“It’s Constance Buckwell. She’s dead, Nina.”

Nina turned on the lamp on the nightstand and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

“How could she be dead? I just spoke to her last night. She emphatically told me she was going to lie on the witness stand.”

“It’s a tough break, for her and for us.” Dan McCloud couldn’t hide his disappointment. Even at this ungodly hour, he was thinking like a lawyer.

“How did she die?” Nina asked.

“Heart attack. She was on her way home and collapsed on the bus. She made it to the hospital alive but died shortly afterwards.”

“This isn’t a good time to bring this up, but we just suffered a major setback and we need to rethink our strategy,” McCloud said. “This case is going to come down to your testimony. I’m still optimistic about our chances, but you have to be the most compelling witness in this case. Your recollection of details is what’s going to persuade a jury to vote for a conviction. Can you meet me at seven?”

Nina shook Marc awake. “We have big trouble.”

“What?” he asked without moving.

“Constance is gone. No more star witness.”

Marc popped up like a Jack-in-the-Box. “Where did she go?”

To hell is my best guess,

Like the beat of a primal drum whispering the rhythm of an ancient dance, the lifestyle calls…

At the seasoned age of fifty-six, Allen Bourke has resigned himself to the fact he’ll probably never find someone to top he can also love. While he’s had wives and lovers, none of them endured and he’s come to the conclusion the clock’s ticking and age is working against him. Then a very intriguing Nicki Cartwright pings on his radar at what Allen determines will be his last house party. He can’t help but notice while he and his friends are getting older, the players emerging on the scene are forever getting younger. Nicki’s no exception. Determined to resist the vibes humming between them, he only agrees to service her after his old friend, Kyle Montgomery, convinces him it’s entirely feasible. Then it’s brought to Allen’s attention who Nicki really is. Knowing their pasts are forever intertwined, as hard as he tries to ignore his heart, he finds himself yielding to the tides of fate.

Born to senatorial royalty, Nicki Cartwright has spent her entire life trying to shield her mother from her father’s wrath while drifting further and further into a world where panic is normal and anxiety is always on the edge of her reality. Tired of burning the candle at both ends and forever trying to live up to the picture of All-American perfection her father James Cartwright touts as his ace in the hole during election cycles, Nicki finds herself on the path of self-discovery in search of relief from the stressors continually swamping her mind. What she doesn’t expect is to find who she thought she was is truly just a shadow of the person she really is. And what scares her most is the fact Allen, the only person she thought she could trust, has been holding a secret since before she was born which could destroy her entire family.

EXCERPT:
When the urge to kiss Nicki had become unbearable, Allen had showed her where she could take a shower, provided her a pair of his old lounge pants and a t-shirt he knew would be three sizes too big, and slipped downstairs to get her a cup of hot chocolate. She seemed like the type of woman who would drink black coffee so stiff you could stand a spoon in it in public, sip tea while with other proper ladies, and needed a good cup of chocolate when in distress and in complete privacy, perhaps with a healthy dose of something stronger than toilet cleaner splashed in it.

As he steamed some whole cream on the stove, he mentally ran through his list of reliable young Doms who were either looking for an available sub or were willing to train and service one until she could find a good match. One thing he knew for certain, he was too old to play this dangerous game with her feelings and he had to find someone else to help her through the initial fog of figuring out if she was cut out for this lifestyle or not. If he was being honest, and right now all he wanted to do was lie to himself, he already knew she was cut out for it and nothing would please him more than to be the service Dom she needed, but he wasn’t in the market for any more disasters and to take her on would be setting them both up for one of catastrophic proportions.

Lisa Scott takes a whole new world of laughs and puts them into 3 volumes of 5 short stories each, for the readers to enjoy. But, be forewarned…..these stories WILL make you laugh out loud so many times, that it’s best not to have a drink in your mouth at the time. ;-)

These three volumes are totally awesome. I had them all read within a couple hours. They’re fast past, hilarious, sexy and sweet. These stories take ordinary women (and men!) and turn their relationship issues into 3 volumes of flirting, romance and fantabulous happy endings. Each story is it’s own, but they are all linked together through awesomely created characters.

Each story is awesome but if you really, really, REALLY want a laugh out loud moment…..read The Hot Girl’s Friend. I laughed out loud so many times during that story that people were probably looking at me like I’d lost my mind! Don’t let Jane into your love life….there’s no telling WHAT you’ll be and why you’re unavailable…lol. Oh and Not You….well, let’s just say that THAT story, is totally, awesomely………unexpected and will make your eyes bulge with wowness ;-) .

The Beach Flirts and Holiday Flirts were awesome too. They all had the perfect amount of awesomeness to them, like volume one had. In the Beach Flirts, I loved Washed Up…I mean with a woman named Molly finding love….yea. ‘Nuff said. And Holiday Flirts? Well, Christmas will never be the same after reading these hilarious stories! Tingle All The Way is really awesome in that one. I loved it the most!

So, if you are looking for that escape, or something to pass the time with, check out Lisa Scott’s FANTASTERIFFIC collections of romance. They’re 5 Book worthy, highly recommend and so hilarious that you’ll wish flirting and romance were ALWAYS like this ;-) . I can’t wait to go back and grab her next volume in the Flirts collection when it releases, entitled Fairy Tale Flirts!
