ARC Review: The Seduction Hypothesis

The Seduction Hypothesis

Author: Delphine Dryden
Publisher: Carina Press
Publication Date: May 6, 2013
Description:

Seduction(1 Curious Sub + 1 Dom in Denial) – Inhibitions = 4 Naughty Nights
Wildlife biologist Lindsey thought attending a fan convention with her new boyfriend Ben was a great idea—until their relationship imploded. Lindsey still lusts after her ex—but if he wants her, he’s going to have to prove he can give her what she needs.

Ben will do anything to win Lindsey back, and when he sees her in her skimpy black vinyl convention getup, he realizes what she’s been craving all along. And he’s inspired to finally give in to his own dark desire to take complete sexual control…

Lindsey is surprised by her reaction to Ben’s kinky new seduction techniques, and suddenly sees the brilliant but boring code guru in a different light. After several erotic encounters in hotel rooms and stairwells, she’s falling for him all over again. And wondering if the intimate connection will last once they head home…

My Thoughts:

I fell in love with Delphine Dryden with the first book in her Science of Temptation series with Callie and Ian. I mean, c’mon, what’s not to love in that book? I’m a HUGE Big Bang Theory fan and Ian clearly resembled Sheldon (well, if Sheldon was a closet Dom…and trust me, I’ve never looked at Sheldon in quite the same way since reading that book, esp. after a particular November 2012 episode of the show when Sheldon spanks Amy).

The Seduction Hypothesis is a very different, yet just as fabulous book from Ms. Dryden. Not only does she switch from first person POV (as in Theory of Attraction) to third, but the set-up was different. Lindsey and Ben had been a couple, but broke up not long ago. There’s some angst there, both with regrets about the demise of the relationship, and Ben not understanding quite why Lindsey broke it off with him.

Lindsey is really into a particularly kinky manga series and planned on dressing like one of the characters for one of the events at the convention the friends all travel to. As it turns out, she’s a dead-ringer for the character and is asked by the crew to stand-in as their regular player had to cancel out on showing up at the convention (yeah, a little suspension of disbelief here, but it worked for me). Ben sees her all duded up and suddenly comes to realize there might be something to the kink thing that, in part, was what had led to their break-up.

He turns to Ian and Callie for some advice (with a quite amusing Cyrano DeBergerac-like scene) and then leaps into some pretty heavy-duty research into the lifestyle, discovering he can get into the whole kink thing. I love that neither one of the pair, but ESPECIALLY the dom, had very little experience with the lifestyle, so they both got to learn together. The new-dom thing isn’t explored very often (at least in my limited BDSM reading). It’s usually the sub being drawn into the lifestyle by an experienced, sexy Dom. Add in the fact that Ben really wanted to get back with Lindsey and ends up discovering a whole new side to himself, and I was absolutely in love with this book.

And, of course…the sex was awesome. Completely, wonderfully, awesome.

Can’t wait for another book in this series!

Description

What do women want?

Jonathan Templar and his poker buddies can’t figure it out. Take Jonathan, for instance. He’s been in love with Lissa Castle since they were kids but, geek that he is, she’s never seen him as her Mr. Perfect. He has one last shot-their high school reunion. Kyle Long is equally discouraged. The pretty receptionist at his office keeps passing him over for other guys who may be taller but are definitely not superior. And Adam Edwards might be the most successful of Jonathan’s friends, but he isn’t having any success on the home front. His wife’s kicked him out.

When Jonathan stumbles on a romance novel at the Icicle Falls library sale, he knows he’s found the love expert he’s been seeking-Vanessa Valentine, top-selling romance author. At first his buddies laugh at him for reading romance novels, but soon they, too, realize that these stories are the world’s best textbooks on love. Poker night becomes book club night…and when all is read and done, they’re going to be the kind of men women want!

My Thoughts

Shelia Roberts has created a sweet town with even sweeter characters. I love that this book was from the male’s POV. It made a lovely new way of thinking about how romance works and how men aren’t exactly like we think.

Each of these men aren’t pure romance heroes. No, they aren’t beautiful gods that get anyone they want. These guys have to work hard to get through their own issues and then find out how to find the woman for them.

Each man has their own issues, whether it be self-esteem, height, or just lack of knowledge. I loved the way Shelia Roberts found the perfect romance hero in the non-perfect man.

This was a great sweet romance that was more a woman’s fiction novel than romance and it was perfect for me. I cried, laughed, and cheered for these men. While I would have loved to have the woman’s POV to see what was happening with them, I didn’t miss it.

What She Wants is a wonderful  take on the imperfect hero and I can’t wait to see what Shelia Roberts comes up with next.

Description

When life gets complicated, New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods proves family-and love-can make all the difference.

Facing a personal crisis, ambitious and driven Gabriella Castle retreats to the welcoming arms of her family. Everything she’s worked for has been yanked out from under her, and she seeks the serenity of her grandmother’s home on the North Carolina coast. With difficult decisions to make about her future, the last thing she wants is an unexpected love.

Wade Johnson fell for Gabi the first time he saw her. It’s not the only time he’s found himself in the role of knight in shining armor, but Gabi isn’t looking for a rescuer. To get her to stay, Wade will need a whole lot of patience and gentle persuasion…and maybe the soothing sound of wind chimes on a summer breeze.

My Thoughts

I’m really falling in love with this series. Wind Chime Point is the second book in the Ocean Breeze series and took my breath away. I loved the first one and this one is even better.

Gabrielle Castle is jobless, loveless, and pregnant. She’s also driven, brilliant, and in need of her father’s love—something she shares with her two sisters. I really liked Gabi in book 1 and was excited to read her story. I love that she finally took a chance with her life and didn’t something she wanted to do, rather than what she thought her father would notice.

Wade was just swoon worthy and amazing. He’d been through so much pain that I wanted him to have that happiness he’d been missing. While he finds it in Gabi, it does take her awhile to understand it. She’s in the middle of an uproar in her life and didn’t want to hurt him—something I loved about the both of them. Wade’s sister could use a thrashing or two in my opinion, but you’ll see when you read it.

Wind Chime Point is a heartwarming, emotional tale that brings you in and never lets you go. If you’re looking for a story to enjoy on an afternoon while you can cry, laugh, and sigh, this one’s for you.

But the more he gets of Toni, the more he’s howling for her. And whatever it takes to convince her what they have is everything, well, this wily wolf is down for the sizzling chase…

My Thoughts

I’m pretty sure my rib was broken with all the laughter in this book. I’ve loved this whole series and OMG this is my new favorite. Toni and Ricky’s romance was off the charts and everything around them was amazing.

Amazing.

Like will all of this series, this book was filled with humor, heat, sarcasm, awesome world building, and suspense. I love seeing characters from past books making their parts known—a reason you should read the whole series in order so you can love it as much as I do.

Toni and Ricky were the stars of this romance. They were so different, yet perfect for each other. Toni’s family was hilarious and we’ve already met and loved most of Ricky’s. I can’t really say much more because I don’t want to spoil anything about this, but READ THIS BOOK.

Go out and read this series. I beg you.

ARC Review: Three Sisters by Susan Mallery

Three Sisterscover22100-medium

Susan Mallery

Harlequin

Pub Date   Feb 26 2013

Description

New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery’s prose has been called “gritty and magical” and “luscious and provocative” (Publishers Weekly). Now she returns to Blackberry Island with the story of three women whose friendship will change their lives forever.

After Andi Gordon is jilted at the altar, she makes the most impetuous decision of her life—buying one of the famed Three Sisters Queen Anne houses on Blackberry Island. Now the proud-ish owner of the ugly duckling of the trio, she plans to open her own pediatric office on the first floor, just as soon as her hunky contractor completes the work. Andi’s new future may be coming together, but the truth is she’s just as badly in need of a major renovation as her house.

When Deanna Phillips confronts her husband about a suspected affair, she opens up a Pandora’s box of unhappiness. And he claims that she is the problem. The terrible thing is, he’s right. In her quest to be the perfect woman, she’s lost herself, and she’s in danger of losing her entire family if things don’t change.

Next door, artist Boston King thought she and her college sweetheart would be married forever. Their passion for one another has always seemed indestructible. But after tragedy tears them apart, she’s not so sure. Now it’s time for them to move forward, with or without one another.

Thrown together by fate and geography, and bound by the strongest of friendships, these three women will discover what they’re really made of: laughter, tears, love and all.

My Thoughts

Three Sisters is an emotional rollercoaster that holds you close and never lets go. Susan Mallery is famous for her light romance that brings in the emotion. But her Blackberry Island series isn’t about the ending, but the journey. Each heroine has been through hell and is still going through it. It then takes everything they have to find each other and the men and families they love.

I won’t get into each woman because I feel you need to read them yourselves. But I will say I loved all three. Even Deanna, who people thought was a bitch. I saw through that and saw the fragileness that threatened to break.

This isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s something that takes you down deep and makes you cry. But honestly, I loved it.

Loved it.

I rooted for all these woman and I will say the journey is worth the end.
