Description
Shady Grove-where everyone knows your secrets
Once, Neil Pettit was the only thing Maddie Montesano wanted. She tried every trick in the book to keep him, but no luck. It took some time-and a lot of holding her head up while the town gossiped-but she’s made a good life for herself and her daughter.
Now, Neil’s back and is trying to be the father he never was. Maddie so doesn’t need this kind of disruption. Not when the crazy attraction she’s spent years ignoring still sizzles between them. The temptation to give in and have Neil again is strong. And when he offers that dream of forever she’d abandoned, well, she might give this town something new to talk about….
My Thoughts
Talk of the Town was a hard book to read, but entertaining nonetheless. Maddie and Neil had been through so much together yet their past seemed to eat at them…Maddie in particular.
Neil left his daughter and Maddie alone to worry about his own life while Maddie worked hard to raise their child. Both parties were at fault here, but for some reason, I felt more for Neil than Maddie. He owned up to his mistakes while Maddie always sounded like she’d never made them.
It took watching their daughter in pain for them to come together. The two parents had chemistry, that was never lacking, but once they started talking to one another, they started to see how life could work. I loved how Neil stood up to his parents about his daughter too. I think that just shows that he was more of a caring parent than people thought he’d be.
Talk of the Town is a book that shows us what happens after bonds are frayed, but not broken. If you’re into second chances stories, then this one is for you.
I received an ARC of this novel via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
