Under her own name and several pseudonyms, she’s written award-winning category romances, historical and paranormal bestsellers, earned a “Career Achievement for Historical Adventure” and a HOLT Medallion, and has had two original horror screenplays optioned for film. My Review:
Where on earth have I been? Have I been in a cave some where? Oh my Gosh! Nancy Gideon is awesomeness!!! I LOVED this book. Though I wish I had read her previous works, this novel did not confuse me in anyway but left me dying to go back and read her Moonlight novels!

I absolutely fell in love with shifter Silas from the start. He’s a sexy, gorgeous Detective and I immediately felt drawn to his awesome character. There was mysteriousness about him, and a personality unique and lovable. Watching him try to save his clan, was like watching a fantabulously directed and casted movie on the big screen.

Monica’s character….well, now there is a different story. I enjoyed her character tremendously but I felt that she could have been a little bit easier on Silas in the beginning. The secrets she keeps from Silas are risky……risky for both of them as her past catches up to her. But, the incidents that arise around the Cajun city…..well, it could put Monica and Silas BOTH in a lot of danger.

That danger is a suspenseful element to the story. Each page turn brought something new to the story, and left the reader thirsting for more. Seeing Silas and Monica try to fight the attraction was awesome, but seeing the attraction win……wow! Steamy passion at it’s FINEST in thuis awesometastic romantic suspense story!

God, I could go on and on about this story…..I could tell you all about the occurrences in New Orleans that have Silas and Monica thrown together, fighting the passion they feel. I could. But, I won’t. It would ruin the story for you. I will tell you that this is one of the FINEST and awesome-est 5 Book worthy preternatural romantic suspense novel that I’ve ever read. Nancy Gideon’s books are going on my Wish List and favorites list! I can’t wait to go back and read the other amazing novels in Ms. Gideon’s collection.

PVBT Review: The Accidental Activist by Alon Shalev

The Accidental Activist

The Accidental Activist is a political courtroom confrontation between a multinational corporation and two young activists who manage to defend themselves using a new and emerging tool – the Internet. The Accidental Activist is a fictional account that closely parallels the famous McDonalds libel case, which captivated England through the 1990’s. But it is also the transformation of a self-absorbed computer yuppie, motivated to act first by love and then by a belief in a better world. The world can be changed, one megapixel at a time!

About the Author:
Alon Shalev has been a political activist since his early teens and believes that fiction can help create a better world. Shalev strives through his writing to highlight social and political injustice and to inspire action for change. A consistent theme that runs through Shalev’s novels is his characters’ capacity to become empowered to help create a better and more just world. His novels, the latest being The Accidental Activist, all highlight a social injustice and provides everyday characters who discover that they can help make a difference. Shalev writes regularly for the popular blog Left Coast Voices at http://www.leftcoastvoices.com/ and facilitates the Berkeley Writer’s Group.

My Review:
Mr. Shalev is a new-to-me author and one that I am happy to say, knows his stuff! He really created a complex and captivating plot line and kept it twisting and turning through out. It was never boring and each character introduced highlighted the story perfectly.

I love a good suspenseful mystery story. Ones that center around a court room, especially. Stories based on actual facts and cases, but written fictionally, really cinch the deal for me, because I love being able to say “I know that” or, “I’ve heard of that”, while still getting a whole new fresh look on things with the fictional aspect. Throw all that together with Matt and Suzie’s characters and you’ve got one GREAT court room drama novel!

The interaction between Matt and Suzie was awesome. I loved watching Matt try to woo Suzie, all the while Matt was trying to rise to the top, over come is downfalls, creating a website and causing a stir, really added to the depth and meaning of the story.

I highly recommend this story with a high 5 Book rating! Complete with laughable British humor, this story will hook you from first page to last, as you take a ride of romance, dodging the downfalls and trying to over come the legalities of a harsh time. While this is my first Shalev novel, it will NOT be my last. I loved the curve balls he threw into the middle of the story, along with the passionate way he created a story and added amazing hook lines for the readers.

Cladach’s Fall Fiction Fling 2011:Face To Face by Catherine Lawton

Face To Face
July 2004
192 pages
Read excerpt here.

Set in the tumultuous world during Jesus’ earthly life, here is a timeless story of suffering, longing, and healing. Conflicts arise between a young woman’s devotion to God and the demon that holds her captive; between her attempts to free herself and the judgment and condemnation of others; between the rabbi named Jesus and the legalistic religious leaders; between the daily reality of Roman oppression and the Jewish hopes of a Deliverer-Messiah.A vivid imagining of the account in Luke 13:10-17, where Jesus calls the bent-over woman to himself.

About the Author:

Catherine was born in Colorado and grew up as a pastor’s daughter in seven towns up and down the state of California. She has loved to write since she was a child, having her first poem published in a national periodical at the age of twelve, and since then her byline has appeared in numerous periodicals and book compilations. She has a BA degree in English from Pasadena College. She served as a church musician for many years, as a private piano teacher, a public school substitute teacher and English reader, and freelance writer and editor. Cathy and her husband, Larry, have participated in and led volunteer short-term mission teams to Mexico, South Africa, Venezuela, Sicily & Rome, and Peru.

After living in Santa Rosa, California, for thirty years the Lawtons moved to Colorado, returning to Cathy’s roots. Besides the publishing business, Cathy enjoys gardening and hiking in the Rocky Mountains. The Lawtons love spending time with their two grown children and their spouses, and their five beautiful grandchildren.

Author Interview:

Hello, Catherine. Your bio mentions that you became a published writer (in a national periodical) at the ripe old age of 12! Did that experience boost your desire to write more?
Catherine: It certainly was affirming and satisfying to think someone would want to print and read something I wrote (It was a little poem about Jesus being my Friend, and a Sunday school teacher encouraged me to send it in). But the desire to write was there already and it grew into a sense of a calling.

In your biblical novel, “Face to Face,” you fictionalize a story about a woman who is miraculously healed by Jesus. She is mentioned in the Bible only once, in Luke 13:10-17. With so little known about her, how did you develop her character and make her so believable?
Catherine: That woman, who was healed by Jesus on the Sabbath, gripped my heart and imagination. She was unnamed in the story, so I named her Joakima, which means “One whom God has lifted up spiritually.” She was bent over double for 18 years and “could in no way lift herself,” which indicates that she had tried. I began to imagine what “cures” she might have used. Each has a parallel today, whether it’s conventional wisdom and “old wives’ tales,” self-righteous religion, new-age spiritualism, or humanistic self-improvement methods. I considered the context of the scriptures and researched the historical period and life in those days. A good story needs conflict, and there’s plenty in this account – between the woman and the spirit that crippled her, between Jesus and the leaders of the synagogue, between the people and the burdensome Sabbath laws, and between walking by faith versus walking by sight. I began to imagine Joakima in a colorful setting interacting with other vibrant characters until the story took on a life of its own. I was interested to see how my character would survive and finally thrive in the challenges of that setting.

One gets the sense that there may be experiences in your own life that parallel those of your character, Joakima. Is this perception accurate?
Catherine: The story formed in my mind while I was going through a period of inner healing. I read the book of Luke, and this woman who was so wretched and yet so tenaciously persevering, triggered my imagination as well as my faith. Jesus told the woman she was released and he said that Satan had kept her bound. This part is very personal. I have known people who are bound by various things 51; memories, addictions, sins, wrong thinking, bitterness, and even evil spirits. And I’ve seen people set free. I wondered what sort of spirit had taken hold of this woman, how Satan could keep a religious person of faith bound, and what might have caused that spirit to enter into her body and life. Luke also tells us that Jesus called her a “daughter of Abraham” which means she had faith. I wondered, how does such a person have such faith?

Now a question to help readers know you better. If you had three free tickets to go to any three places in the world, where would you go, and why?
Catherine: First I’d go to Israel to research my next novel! Next I’d go to Scotland and the Hebrides, where a mighty revival happened the year I was born. Third I’d go to Rome again, where there is a strong sense of the biblical world and the modern world intersecting.

Since music has played such an important role in your life: What music CDs happen to be in your player right now?
Catherine: I just put in a CD of Loreena McKennitt singing Christmas songs, and a Russian pianist playing Rachmaninoff concertos.

If you could spend a week with any historical person of the past ten centuries, who would that be?
Catherine: I might like to spend a week with Joan of Arc, though it might be dangerous. A simple peasant girl believed so strongly that God had spoken to her that she was able to convince leaders of her country and army to let her lead them to victory, out of a dark and troubled period. And talk about conflicts! Her faith and obedience led to her martyrdom. Amazing.

What writing projects are you working on now?
Catherine: Besides writing occasional poetry and other short pieces, I have started two other novels. As I was writing Face to Face, the character of Benjamin grew so strong and appealing, he almost took over the story. I would like to give him a chance to shine. I’d like to take Joakima and Ben to Jerusalem again, perhaps to be present during Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was outpoured, to be part of the early believers who were persecuted and dispersed. I’d like to see Joakima return to her childhood home of Dura-Europas. And like every good story, it would include lots of conflict and a little romance.

Where on the Internet can we find you?
Catherine: At my Cladach author page: http://cladach.com/Lawton.html ,

Anything else you’d like readers to know about you?
Catherine: Here are some things about me: I’ve played the piano for years. Currently, I accompany a gospel quartet. My husband and I enjoy beekeeping in our backyard. I own Cladach Publishing, a small royalty press; and I spend lots of time editing and promoting other authors and their books. Writing and publishing is quite an adventure. And hearing from readers is like frosting on the cake!

PICT Review: True Grime by Natasha Deen

True Grime

Grime cop and teen fairy Pepper Powder lives for one thing: protecting the human species from magical zealots who seek to eradicate them with Violent Illness of Unusual Resistance and Strength (humans call them “viruses,” but their mistake is understandable. The very young often get their words wrong.). When a terrorist leader releases a necrophage bomb, it not only decimates Grime headquarters, it turns Pepper into the magical world’s first fairy amputee—but she’s not going to let a little thing like a missing leg stop her. To catch her criminal, and prevent him from unleashing a VIURS in one of the human world’s biggest shopping centers, West Edmonton Mall, she goes undercover as a human. But once Pepper’s theories of humanity collide with the reality of bullies, cliques, and environmental destruction, will she still believe humanity’s worth saving?

About the Author:
When I was little, there was only one thing I wanted to be: a superhero. But there came a day when my dreams were broken, and that was the day I realized that being a klutz was not, in fact, a super power, and my super weakness for anything bright and shiny meant a magpie with self-control could easily defeat me in a battle of wills. I turned to writing as a way to sharpen my mental super-hero skills. I don’t get to orbit the earth in a space station (and thank God, because I get sick on merry go round), but I do get to say things like: “Stand aside! This is a job for Writing Girl!!”

My Review:

Okay. So let me take a minute to reflect back on this book. *Reflecting* Okay. I’m back. Now, to start off on this, I’m gonna say, I’m not a huge fan of Fantasy novels. I like the Vamps, Weres, and Shifters that I’ve recently begun reading with a passion, but not so big on Fantasy novels. That being said, I really and totally enjoyed this new book from the talented author Natasha Deen. I’ve read some of her previous work and she’s definitely got skills!
Now, on to the story. Seriously? Pepper Powder Puff? Harley Hands? Just from the names alone you get a kick out of the story. But, they are actually awesome characters. Faeries who double as teens to work the True Grime unit. Yep, they are in charge of ridding the world of this thing called a VIRUS(VIURS). Once they are are undercover, the partners head out to rid the human world of all the nasties, all the virus’. But what they encounter there is not what they expected. Will they be able to rid the world of the grime? Will they be able to save humanity?
In this fun, laugh-out-loud, story readers young and old alike will have fun getting to know Pepper and Harley and the True Grime gang. They take you on a roller coaster of ups and downs, blending the perfect amount of mystery with laughs, and creating a fantastic story of good verses evil.
I highly recommend this with a 5 Books rating! It’s fantastic! Whether it’s romantic suspense, or young adult urban fantasy, Ms. Deen knows how to create lovable characters, and detailed plot lines and keep the reader hooked   from beginning to end. I’m now a fan of Young Adult fantasy ,especially grime fighting faeries! I certainly hope Pepper makes a return in the future!

Sizziling PR Presents: Beachwalk Press Author Ella Jade, Guest Post+Giveaway!

Domestic Goddess or Romance Author?
by Ella Jade

Can’t I be both?

Hello everyone. My name is Ella Jade and I’m thrilled to be here during this magical time of year. The holiday season is upon us and there’s so much to do. There are cookies to be baked, presents to be bought and wrapped, a house to be decorated, and stockings to hang by the chimney.

Geesh…looks like I’ll be a busy girl. I don’t mind because I like this kind of busy. The holidays can often be stressful, but I try to take a step back and relax. I want to do as many fun and exciting things as I can with my family during the month of December. One of my favorite things to do is working the Holiday shop at the kids’ school. I love seeing kids’ little faces light up when they’re buying a little trinket for their mom, dad, aunts, uncles, or pets. They’re so cute and innocent. Another special thing I like to do is bake cookies with my mom and kids. We dedicate an entire Sunday to making all sorts of cookies. It’s messy, but fun! And I think we eat more than we should!

Watching holiday movies and specials are also a big tradition in my house. We even start with Elf the weekend before Thanksgiving so we can squeeze them all in throughout the season. Some of our must-sees are Jingle All the Way, Christmas Vacation, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street. We light a fire, make popcorn, and just snuggle under the blankets. The rest of the year is always so crazy with school, homework, sports and anything else that pops up, so we try to schedule as much family time as possible during these few special weeks. I want my kids to have memories that will last a lifetime.

I’m also hosting Christmas dinner this year. I’m cooking for twenty guests! I’ve just finished cleaning up from the massive Thanksgiving dinner I cooked, but the wheels are already turning. What delicious concoction can I come up with? What will my centerpiece be? How will I dress the table? My husband says we don’t have time for me to have a “Martha moment” because we’re busy enough. But I LOVE to entertain and make people feel welcome in my home. Hmm…I’m thinking some sort of white chocolate, raspberry cheesecake will need to be created, and I really can’t forget the Pomegranate martinis, can I?

With all of the planning, organizing, and creating during this time of year, I still make an effort to write. I’m a romance author after all, and so much inspiration can be found around these next few weeks. The smell of a fresh Pine wreath, mistletoe hanging from a doorway, a cup of hot chocolate by the fire, or even the reflection of the lights from the tree all serves as wonderful writing prompts for me. So, as busy as I am, I always make time when everyone else is asleep and the house is quiet to sneak downstairs, turn on the lights to the tree and mantle, and let the season get my creative juices flowing.

I hope you find inspiration this holiday season in every aspect of your life. I wish you all a happy and safe holiday.

And if you’re looking for something naughty to read on these cold nights, check out my newest release, Embracing the Unexpected.

It’ll be out just in time for Christmas.

You can find it at http://beachwalkpress.com/embracing-the-unexpected/ on December 19, 2011.
